F abian Bolivar’s love for sound and self expression has taken on various shapes over his years in New York. Whether playing in bands, writing poetry, or DJing, the artist seeks out opportunities to gain inspiration from his surroundings. He finds motivation in other musicians in the city while holding on to his idols, like Hector Lavoe, Alice in Chains, and Pedro Infante. While freelance DJing is Bolivar’s current gig, he’s looking for ways to tap into a more genuine relationship with making music.
“Just tryna inspire others, as I have been.”
Most of Bolivar’s current artistic pursuits don’t happen at well-known concert venues or bars, but at music sets that are defined only by the address where they take place. Either you know where to go, or you have no idea the party you’re missing out on. He uses these events to further inspire his writing and expand his community.
“It’s like the underbelly of New York. It’s pretty crazy.”
When he’s not writing or mixing, Bolivar works as a barista at Gather in the Lower East Side and as a bartender at Break Bar in Hudson Yards. Bolivar enjoys the group of like-minded creatives he shares the cappuccino machines with at Gather – his coworkers offer youthful energy he finds magnetic.Come visit Bolivar at Gather. He’ll make you an iced chai latte with oat milk and cold foam that he’s certain you’ll love. ∎
