Kurt Cadet

Interjected with quotes from conversation with Kurt Cadet

W hile studying journalism at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Kurt Cadet enrolled in a sports media course, just to try it out. By the semester’s end, he’d not only discovered a love for podcasting, but he also befriended a classmate who would become his future co-host. Clash of Champions, the duo’s now five-year-running podcast, combines their shared love for professional wrestling as well as Cadet’s long-time admiration for hip hop. Using WWE events as his topic, Cadet researches, records, edits, and produces weekly episodes of sports commentary. He’ll write songs, compare wrestlers and rappers to one another, and sometimes do impressions of the athletes. Cadet and his partner started the series together with just their phones and laptops. After years of honing their skills and media presences, the podcast now has a variety of episode themes, a YouTube channel, and a goal to grow its involvement in the wider professional wrestling community. Cadet looks forward to continuing to implement hip hop and rap into his work and develop himself as a creative sports commentator.

Cadet waits tables at Jajaja, a Mexican plant-based restaurant in the West Village. A vegan himself, he loves being able to genuinely recommend dishes to guests, which is an aspect of working in the food and beverage industry he hasn’t always experienced.

“It’s so refreshing, like a breath of fresh air.”

Cadet highly recommends Jajaja’s “Pollo Coco” tacos, but suggests ordering an extra because two just isn’t enough.
